Poetry Sunday: Winter Morning
Not exactly what winter looks like in my neck of the woods, this is actually Rocky Mountain National Park from a trip that we took there a couple of years ago. |
Ogden Nash was the master of the short and pithy form of poetry. Here's one that he wrote about winter. The winter he describes is certainly not the one that we are having this year, but it's the winter of our imaginations.
Winter Morning
by Ogden Nash
Winter is the king of showmen
Turning tree stumps into snow men
And houses into birthday cakes
And spreading sugar over lakes
Smooth and clean and frosty white
The world looks good enough to bite
That's the season to be young
Catching snowflakes on your tongue
Snow is snowy when it's snowing
I'm sorry it's slushy when it's going
