The Nature of Things

Okay, I know it is a commercial but it's really kind of cute, and it's Monday and Iowans are caucusing and soon our ears will be assaulted by a cacophony of shrill voices of the pundits explaining what happened and why it happened, even if they don't know. Which they probably don't. So for a couple of minutes let's just chill out and forget that world and visit the much more interesting world of cats. And kittens. We need this!

Ever wonder what the Rockettes would look like if they were kittens? Of course you have! Well, wonder no more. Of course, cats being cats, one or two of them sort of lose interest there toward the end, but I see potential here.  

The Internet performs many important functions in our lives, but, of course, the most important of these is to serve up videos of cute cats and babies. Sometimes, it even gives us a bonus when the cat and the baby appear together. Just because the cat in this video looks like my Beau, here's one of those bonuses to brighten your day. Unfortunately, Beau doesn't have a baby to play with, but, if he did, I'm sure the video would be just this adorable.

As I have noted here and here , we have a new kitten in our household. He came to us under mysterious circumstances almost a month ago, but he has made himself right at home, much to the chagrin of the two cats with whom we were already sharing our house.  In our household, the mentoring relationship of older cat to young kitten has not developed yet, but we live in hope. Maybe I should show them some of the "Dear Kitten" videos to give them the idea. 

It's Friday and we need a break from doom and gloom. How about something cheery to take us into the weekend? And what could be cheerier than cats and babies together? Enjoy!

It's a cold, drizzly, gray Monday in February and we need something to lighten our mood. What better than a cat video? Specifically a cat video showing two kittens confirming the well-known feline relationship with empty boxes. That's all it takes to entertain them. And us. Happy Monday!

The weekly roundup of news from the world of birds and the environment will return next week. Meantime... It's been a while since we checked in with Henri le Chat. Let's see what is happening in his world in this new year. It is said that dogs have owners while cats have staff. Clearly, Henri is planning to add this dog to his staff.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Simon's Cat's house. And what's on the top of Santa's list for all good little cats? And maybe even some not so good? Catnip, of course!

Poor Simon's Cat. All he wants is a nap, but the world conspires against him. I know just how he feels.

Election Day in America and the headlines are thoroughly depressing. The chance of having an outcome that makes us a better country seems remote at best. We've done all we can do to affect the election so let's forget all about it for a few minutes. That's what cat videos are for. Enjoy!

The political season is heating up. In just one month, we will be having an election that will do much to determine what our future will look like, and yet I find myself overcome with ennui and low expectations in regard to the whole thing. Not unlike a certain famous black and white cat.

It's Monday and my mind feels dulled after a weekend of frivolity and riotous living. Well, not really, but the part about the dull mind is true. So, instead of boring you with my dullness, let me introduce you to someone who is sharp as a tack - Willie the cat. He may be a one-trick cat, but it is quite a trick, I think you'll agree.

This is just very sweet. And very familiar. Especially the part about adding fun to daily chores and accompanying them at ALL times.

The world of humans has had a rather hellacious month of July. With the people of the Middle East doing their best to kill each other off and wipe the planet clean of anyone who sees things differently from them; with Russia and its minions in the eastern part of Ukraine shooting down civilian airliners and then keeping away investigators and those who simply want to recover the human remains for two long weeks while those remains are exposed to the elements; with the haters in our own country converging on our southern border with assault rifles in hand in order to repel unarmed children who want nothing more than to turn themselves in to the Border Patrol and seek protection... All in all, it was a month, we would be happy to forget. So, let's do that for a couple of minutes. It's August, a new month with a clean slate. Let's start it off with a visit to the world of Simon's Cat. We haven't checked on that ever-hungry feline lately. I wonder what he's up to th...

Who doesn't love a good massage? It's just the ticket after a hard day of gardening. Or even a hard day sitting in front of a computer. Maybe especially after a hard day in front of the computer. Those muscles really need some kneading. And who knows kneading better than cats? In our house, we call that action that they do, rhythmically pressing on the object of their affection with their paws, "making biscuits," and we do have some prime biscuit-makers. The cats in these videos, though, could certainly give our cats stiff competition in the biscuit making business. Their canine friends are just happy to be kneaded.

And there is nothing more persistent than a hungry cat.

Anyone who lives with cats can attest that the furry beasts are no respecters of personal property. They consider your favorite chair or your bed to be their own. And furthermore, that goes for the dog's bed, too... Hat tip to Jayne Wilson for pointing this out on YouTube.
